Nancy Duxbury, PhD, is a Senior Researcher at the Centre for Social Studies, University of Coimbra, and a member of the European Expert Network on Culture. She is Principal Investigator of CREATOUR. Past research examined culture in local sustainable development; culture-based development models in smaller communities; and cultural mapping, which bridges academic inquiry, community practice, and artistic approaches to understand and articulate place. Recent books: Animation of Public Space through the Arts: Toward More Sustainable Communities (Almedina 2013), Cultural Mapping as Cultural Inquiry, and Culture and Sustainability in European Cities: Imagining Europolis (both Routledge 2015).

Cláudia Pato Carvalho is a postdoctoral researcher at the Centre for Social Studies of the University of Coimbra under the “Arteria” project (operation no. CENTRO-07-2114-FEDER-000022, Portugal 2020). It is an action-research project in collaboration with O Teatrão (oficina Municipal do Teatro, Coimbra) that aims at the creation of a cultural programming network in the Centro Region and the creation of artistic intervention projects in eight cities of the Centro. She completed her PhD in Sociology, specialization in Sociology of Culture, Knowledge and Communication, at the Faculty of Economics of the University of Coimbra in October 2010, in collaboration with the Center for Reflective Community Practice (DUSP, MIT).

Fiona Eva Bakas is a critical tourism researcher with international teaching experience. She holds a PhD Tourism (Otago University, 2014), an MSc Ecotourism (Portsmouth University, 2004) and a BSc (Hons) Biotechnology with European Studies (University of Nottingham, 1999). With 20 years of varied work experience, she is now a postdoctoral researcher in a nationwide project on creative tourism in rural areas and small cities (CREATOUR), at Centre for Social Studies, Portugal. Fiona has published in peer-reviewed journals on aspects of creative and cultural tourism, gender in tourism labour, qualitative methodologies, handicrafts, entrepreneurship, rural tourism, ecotourism, and feminist economics.

Lorena Sancho Querol is postdoctoral researcher in the area of Social Museology at the Centre for Social Studies.
Her most recent project “SoMus: Society in the Museum”, is concerned with the definition of new models of participatory management in local museums. Together with Paulo Peixoto, from 2018 onwards she coordinates the H-2020 project European Colonial Heritage Modalities in Entangled Cities (ECHOES).
Lorena conceptualizes cultural participation as “a set of cocreative and evolving sociocultural dynamics intertwining micro and macro-participation, according to place specificities and to the needs, values and dreams of people conforming local society” (Sancho Querol 2017: 44 ).

Miroslav Tascu-Stavre holds a Degree in Political Science, a Master in Political Theory and a PhD in Political Science from the National School of Political Science and Public Administration in Bucharest, his research focuses on sustainability, cultural tourism and local communities in touristic areas. He is Senior Lecturer at the University of Bucharest, Faculty of Letters, Department of Cultural Studies (Romania), teaching seminars and laboratories concerning Methodology for Social Research, Cultural Policies in European Context, European Institution, Transition and Democracy. Since 2003, he has worked part-time in the organisation of Stufstock festival, one of the most important alternative rock festivals in Romania.

Paulo Peixoto holds a doctorate in sociology (UC | 2007), he is professor at the University of Coimbra (FEUC) and researcher at the Centre for Social Studies (CES), integrating the research group on “Cities, Culture and Architecture (CCArq)”. He is member of “Art, Culture and Power (CNPq/UERJ), university where he was visiting Professor in 2014. Paulo is also member of the research groups “Geography, Tourism and Cultural Heritage” (CNPq/UNICAMP) and “TuPaC -Tourism and Cultural Heritage ” (CNPq/UFSM). Silvia Silva holds a degree in Sociology from the Faculty of Economics of University of Coimbra, institution where she obtained her master’s degree in Cities and Urban Cultures. Currently she is a PhD student in Sociology, developing a thesis with the proposed theme “Qualified Portuguese migration: identity, expectations and mobility strategies of cultural and creative professionals”. She is Research Manager on CREATOUR. She held several research activities, developing projects with cooperation with several research centres.

Tiago Castro holds a Degree in Tourism Management and Planning, a Master in Urban and Regional Planning, by the University of Aveiro and a Specialization in Management and Production of Shows by the University Lusófona of Porto. He was an active member and associative leader of the Experimental Theater Group of the University of Aveiro (GrETUA). In the last 10 years, he has worked mainly in the cultural sector as a producer, manager, trainer, creator and actor (national and international level). Since 2012, he has combined the roles as cultural manager and urban planner at 4iS – Platform for Social Innovation. He collaborates as a mentor in the Tandem Ukraine program and is an active member of the European networks CitizensLab and Tandem. Currently, he is a Junior Researcher under the CREATOUR project.

Alexandra Gonçalves is an Integrated Researcher at CinTurs (Research Center on Tourism, Sustainability and Wellbeing) and Adjoint Professor of the School of Management, Tourism and Hospitality from the University of the Algarve. From December 2013 to December 2018 she was Regional Director of Culture of the Algarve, having been councilor of the Municipality of Faro – areas of Culture, Social Action, Health, Advertising, Economy and Tourism, from 2009 to 2013. PhD in Tourism by the University of Évora and Master in Management and Administration of Cultural Heritage, by the Faculty of Human and Social Sciences of University of Algarve and University of Paris-8, she has several articles and research published in tourism, cultural heritage and events. She collaborates in several research projects in these areas, highlighting the CREATOUR project, where she is the lead researcher for the regional team of the University of Algarve.

João Filipe Marques holds a Degree and a MA in Social Anthropology and a PhD in Sociology by the École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales of Paris. He is Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Economics of the University of Algarve and integrated researcher at the Centre for Spatial and Organizational Dynamics (CIEO – UAlg). Currently he is the Director of the Sociology Master Program and member of the Board of the inter-university doctoral program «OpenSoc – Sociology: Knowledge for Inclusive and Open Societies». He has been teaching Social Sciences and Sociological Theories since the 1990’s and is main field of research has been the Sociology of Racism and Ethnicity. Recently is research interests shifted towards the sociology of tourism, leisure and travel and he has been teaching Sociology of Tourism in the Sociology Programs of the University of Algarve.

Mirian Nogueira Tavares is Associate Professor at the University of Algarve. Sónia Cabeça, PhD, Sociologist, with thesis on fanaticism, and cultural forms. Integrated researcher at the Centre for Spatial and Organizational Dynamics (CIEO) and researcher at the UNESCO chair in Intangible Heritage and Traditional Know-How: Linking Heritage. Specialist in Ethnossociology and Intangible Heritage, devoted several years to the study of Cante Alentejano, a traditional chant from Alentejo, and its bearers, having written the doctoral thesis “Structure and Formation Process of Cultural Forms: the case of Cante Alentejano” (2016). Is currently post doctorate in the project CREATOUR, working on creative tourism, cultural mapping, cultural heritage, and sustainability.

She is the founder and Communication Designer of SUSTENTA DESIGN, which focuses on sustainability in product design. She has also served as a COST Independent External Advisor and a European Commission Independent Expert.

Paula Cristina Almeida Cadima Remoaldo is an associate professor with habilitation of Human Geography in the Department of Geography of the Social Sciences Institute, University of Minho, Portugal. She got her PhD in Human Geography, in 1999, at the University of Minho with collaboration of Louvain-la-Neuve University. She is at present Head of the Department of Geography and Head of Lab2PT (Laboratory of Landscape, Heritage and Territory) at University of Minho. She has published in the leading journals of Tourism such as Annals of Tourism Research and Current Issues in Tourism. Isabel Freitas is an Associate Professor with Aggregation at Portucalense University, PhD in History, Correspondent of the Portuguese Academy of History, Director of the Department of Tourism, Heritage and Culture. Collaborator in the Lab2PT Research Center and integrated in the Portucalense University Research Center REMIT. Coordinator of several projects at Portucalense University in the areas of heritage, culture and tourism. Collaborator in several other projects of valorization of the territory. In the scope of these projects several publications centered around themes related to territory, water and borders within the framework of Peninsular relations were developed.

Lílian Gavioli de Jesus holds a bachelor and a master’s degree in Geography from the State University of Londrina. She worked as a geography teacher for the State of Paraná’s Education Department and also worked as professor at the Universidade Norte do Paraná. She was one of the first professors to develop the Geography course team unit. In this university she also contributed to the courses of History and Pedagogy and in fact, the disciplines that she ministered were strictly related to her line of research, the teaching of Geography: practices, methodologies and reflections. She is currently a PhD student in Geography at the University of Minho and a researcher at CREATOUR-Lab2PT.
